REFLECTION Though separated by time and distance, the Americans maintain their ties with the cousins in Germany. |
|
Over the years, the American Mangelsdorfs have continued to maintain ties with their German cousins. A number of trips have been made to Germany for personal visits. The first that was recorded is one taken by William and August in 1886. They would have made the Atlantic crossing by “modern” steamship and would surely have been acutely aware of the striking difference in accommodations in contrast to their painfully unpleasant voyage in a crowded sailing vessel 29 years before. |
